All of the transporters carry a federal motor carrier license from the department of transportation. You may request a copy of the transporters DOT number at the time of booking or at the time of pick up. All transporters also carry cargo insurance which may vary between haulers with a minimum of $100,000. Once we locate the driver best suited for your needs Boat Delivery Network will provide you with the transporters contact information along with the DOT license.
* It is highly recommended to discuss the limits of cargo insurance with the transporter for boats with a value over $100,000 and to have your boat covered by personal insurance prior to the haul for added protection.
PREPARING FOR DELIVERY
It is the responsibility of the shipper to make sure the boat is “road worthy” for the haul. Here are some of the requirements prior to pick up:
- The boat must be secured to its trailer with the correct size ratchet strap connected at the stern.
- The boat must have a safety chain connected to the bow cleat.
- All tires must have satisfactory tread.
- The trailer axles and springs must be roadworthy. Slight rust is ok. **Trailer axles and leaf springs older than 8 years must be inspected by a trailer repair shop prior to delivery
- A spare tire must be included at the time of pick up. **Extremely Important
- The trailer must have operable running lights and brake lights.
- Boats taller than 13 feet 3 inches must be broken down below the maximum height prior to pick up. The transporter will not be responsible for removing radars, GPS, radio antennas etc. If the height is not below the maximum 13 feet three inches the transporter will immediately leave and YOU WILL LOSE YOUR DEPOSIT.
- It is recommended to remove all extra water from the fresh water system and to have the minimum fuel aboard.
